SYLACAUGA — For 21 years, the Rev. Manuell Smith III said he has been fighting the city and Board of Education to get fair treatment for the black community, whether it was students or the number of black teachers hired.

“This has become a racist community,” he said.

At a Tuesday night Board of Education meeting, Smith said he is prepared to walk the streets of the city asking parents to take their children out of city schools Friday and Monday. He said it doesn’t matter whether the students are black or white.

“I want parents to take their children out of school. This city and board are ignoring us. I’m planning on taking my three children out,” he said.

Smith said his main reason in doing this is the lack of black teachers in the School System.

Being an outside from the land of beaver and cocks (Canada) where this black/white stuff doesn't exist, when will people realize Jesse Jackson should have his picture in the dictionary beside "racist"?

SYLACAUGA – City School System officials reported Friday 17 black students were withdrawn from schools by parents.

The withdrawals followed a promise by a local minister earlier in the week based on racial issues to ask parents to take the action.

Another excerpt :

“I’m sick and tired of this and what is going on. I’ve talked to the Rev. Jesse Jackson. He plans to look at what is going on here with the Rainbow Coalition once the situation is resolved in Jena, La. He will give us more time and help me do a march if necessary,” Smith said.

Told ya so!

Alright! I got a plan, we can all make some cash on this venture.

Let's go ahead now and have the T-Shirts printed up!

Everyone will want to show their support when the TV crew gets here. 15 bucks a pop!!!

This guy is a wanna-be-media whore just like Jackson. The school system has outlined how is goes above and beyond trying to attract teachers of races other than "white" and it cannot "magically" make black teachers appear from thin air.

What a dolt.

BTW, what exactly do they mean by "students were withdrawn"?

Do the mean they will not be attending those schools any longer or that they just stayed home or were "checked-out" in protest?

Because if it is that latter, I would think they should receive some disciplinary actions against them.

A voice of "reason" is finally printed by our local rag:

SYLACAUGA - The Rev. Bobby Whetstone is a man on a mission. He is out to save his School System from charges of racism and a lack of black teachers being made by the Rev. Manuell Smith III.

Whetstone said Tuesday he had been considering for awhile speaking out against Smiths allegations of racism and a lack of black teachers in the School System.

"Now it is time to speak out. The majority of black people I talk to don't support him. He only represents a small percentage of Sylacauga's black community," Whetstone said.
